Romania in the European classification of the child death rate
Romania continues to maintain among the countries with the highest values in Europe of the number of the child death rate cases, the periodical report on the implementation of the provisions of the UNO Convention regarding the child rights shows, which was sent to Geneva by the National Authority for the Protection of Child Rights (NAPCR).The main indicator featuring the children state condition is the child death rate. In Romania, this indicator had, between 1990–2006, an oscillating evolution, but with a consistent decreasing tendency (from 26,9 per cent in 1990 to 13,9 per cent child death rate in a thousand living born, value registered in 2006), the report shows. This situation could be explained both by the family lack of interest for the newborn in the rural environment or ignoring disease symptoms in very little children, in a context of a low education level and by deficiencies of medical care provided for at this level. At the same time, the infanticide rate in Romania was of 38 cases in 2002, 25, in 2003 and 2004, 32, in 2005, and 20, in 2006.In accordance with the study, the children average weight at birth in Romania is lower than in Western Europe (3.400 grams), between 3.150 and 3.200 grams, between 1993–1998 and of 3.200 grams, between 2004–2005.
