Romanians go to the cinema the least often
The Romanians are the Europeans who go to the cinema the least often, the figures published on Monday by the Eurostat European Statistics Office showing that a Romanian goes to the cinema an average of 0.1 times a year to watch a movie. The Bulgarians are before Romania (0.3 movies per year). At the opposite pole are the Irish. The most cinephile Europeans go, in average, 4.2 times a year to the cinema, followed by the French (3), the Spanish (2.8) and the Luxembourgish (2.7). The average at EU level is of 1.9 movies a year watched at the cinema. According to the study, 51 percent of Europeans went at least once to the cinema and their percentage is much above the average in Sweden (71 percent), Denmark (69 percent) and Ireland (66 percent). In comparison, an American goes in average 7.6 times a year to the cinema and 64 percent of the citizens of USA state that they went to the cinema at least twice the last year.
