31-10-2007 The free of charge medical tests program, denounced before the European Commission The deputy Sorin Paveliu notified yesterday the European Commission with regard to the violation by the Government of Romania of the right to private life. Sorin Paveliu (Democratic Liberal Party) declared in a press conference that by the program on the population health condition assessment, the Government "flagrantly" violated an EU directive on the protection of personal data. "By the exorbitance of the propagandistic character aberration, the so-called program on the population health condition assessment, confidential data are daily collected and reported on the health condition, alcohol addiction, number of the sexual partners, venereal diseases had", Paveliu showed. He also said that according to the law on the personal data protection, such information can be collected only within the physician-patient relationship, as they are intended for treatment. The deputy underlined that the Ministry of Health should have obtained the consent in written of the persons participating to such program. At the same time, Paveliu pinpointed, that before commencement of such program, the minister of Health, Eugen Nicolaescu, should have obtained the agreement of the Authority for the Personal Data Protection and he should have consulted the Board of Physicians of Romania.
