The specialists talk of the imminence of an influenza pandemia
Mankind needs another two-three years of training in order to face an influenza pandemia, David Nabarro, the UNO coordinator on influenza issues declared. Nabarro mentioned that the Governments needed to be prepared for the devastating effects on their economies, which the infection of millions of persons could have. Many countries have already prepared plans in case of pandemia, but only a few are really prepared to face the mass absenteeism which could decimate their economy. The UNO representative declared that the outburst of an influenza pandemia required an immediate response within only several days, in order to isolate the infection focus point and limit the consequences. These rapid reaction plans include the antiviral medicines supply, with oral administration. "These medicines – oseltamivir and zanamivir – can cover between 8 and 20 per cent in a population, in particular in the risk one, respectively the medical staff, those working in the water and energy network supply", Adrian Streinu Cercel, Prof. Ph.D.., from the Institute of Infectious Disease "Matei Balº" declared. He declared that 40 years elapsed from the last influenza pandemia and we can expect a change of the virus structure, either natural or a hybridization of the human influenza virus with the avian influenza and vice-versa.
